It happens already. If you would like, you can register your own independent state and issue passports, marriage certificates, birthday and death certificates, land titles, and similar – whatever a state issues today.
It all became possible after Ethereum with its smart contracts based on blockchain was developed by Vitalik Buterin. I have written an article about him and his Ethereum.
Bitnation was founded in 2014. They have registered the first marriage in the same year and issued the first birth certificate the next year.
What is the advantage of such a blockchain based system of registration? It cannot be changed. Once generated, a link of a blockchain becomes a public record forever. What is chained cannot be changed (I am trying to come up with tag line).
So far, such an idea of a state without boarders does not look too practical, does it? But at the beginning of the last century, a car looked like a luxury toy toy too, didn’t it?
